Dominique Barnes is a dedicated marine conservationist who embraces unique approaches to achieving conservation goals. Her passion is using the power of entrepreneurship to create businesses that solve our most pressing environmental issues.
Dominique earned her master’s in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. She has over 10 years of experience in the conservation industry ranging from teaching in the class-room to pitching to investors on the importance of protecting the oceans for human health.
Prior to joining the Spiral Pacific team, Dominique co-founded New Wave Foods, a plant-based seafood company making highly sustainable and delicious shrimp from plant and algae ingredients. On the founding team, she pioneered the idea of plant-based shrimp by being the first venture-backed company to pursue such a product. To-date New Wave Foods has raised over 18M in funding from investors such as Tyson Foods, and AME.
Her love for marine life started at a young age even though she grew up in the desert of Las Vegas, NV. She fostered her passion by becoming a shark biologist and working with marine life in Las Vegas. Though Dominique is a novice filmmaker, she has been fortunate enough to spend a little time in front of the camera. She appeared on Bill Nye Saves The World, Quartz, And Seeker news. Dominique sees film and imagery as tools that propel passion and conservation for ocean life.
